Supporting the Youth of Texas: Mission and Vision

Live Stock Show and Auction Have you ever been to a Live Stock Show and Auction? If your child or friends’ child is part of a group called Future Farmers of America (FFA) or Texas 4-H Foundation, then you have probably been to a show and auction. But, many of you may need a little more information about what a livestock show and auction is and does. Basically it is the culmination of a year of hard work and dedication of the youth and their animals.
Live Stock Shows Around the State There are County Livestock Shows held in every county around the State of Texas. The Travis County Livestock Show is held at the Travis County Exposition Center. The best in each class of cattle, lamb, goats, hogs, chickens, rabbits, turkeys and more are allowed to compete in the final rounds at the Star of Texas Rodeo (STFR) in March.
Rodeo Austin (RA) The animals who win their county shows can be brought to show at Rodeo Austin. These dedicated kids and parents travel from all over the State of Texas to Austin to show their winning animals and projects. The animals are judged on many categories including height, weight, bone structure and how they are handled in the arena. After the animals and art projects are judged, the winning animals and artwork are required to be put up for auction.
The Auction If an animal is awarded a ribbon or is a champion of their breed, the participant is almost guaranteed to make enough money on the auction of their animal to help cover the cost of one year of the expenses incurred to raise, train and get the animal to the show, with a little left over to apply to further their education. Other animals, which did not place as high, are sold at auction at market values of price per pound. Sometimes this price per pound is so low it hardly covers the tremendous costs and dedication the kids have demonstrated over the past year. This can leave little, if any, left over to save towards their future education or toward future animal projects.
In order to help the children further their educations, we have formed the “BBQ Buyers Group.”
What is a Buyers Group? It’s a group of people joined together who formed a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization to help raise money to supplement the monies offered by the challenging market auction sale. If we can pledge to raise the price an extra 10 cents per pound, maybe then the kids will have made just enough to cover some more of the expenses that incur with raising these animals and put some away for education too.
Fundraising for the Buyers Group Our Buyers Group is a group with a vision for the future. As a non-profit group we will hold fundraising events each year, with all net proceeds used to purchase animals from the livestock auctions. Our goal is to help as many kids as possible, but in order to do so – we need your help, we need you to become a member of our group!
How can I help? You can join us in helping to meet our vision of supporting further education of the Youth of Texas. You or your company can donate goods/services, used for fundraising raffles or to be given as door prizes during other fundraising events. You can become a sponsor by pledging a specific amount of money to be used for the purchase of animals and join us during the livestock auction. You and your friends can join us for other fundraising events throughout the year.
Together we can achieve our goals and provide a future education for the youth of Texas.
Thank you from the BBQ Buyers Group.
